My Workflow and Setup

What's in my setup? What do I do to accomplish the tasks at hand?

Electronics

I'm currently using a hackintosh that I built on my own, as my main computer. I also have an Asus K53e laptop that is running Ubuntu. I like the hackintosh a lot. It has plenty of power for really anything that I decide to do. I built it for editing videos, which I still love to do, but unfortunately don't get to do as often.

Desk
I change phones about every year. The only reason I can do this is because I buy them a few years old. I am currently running the Galaxy SIII, but I'm looking to switch to the Apple 5c. I want to be able say that I've tried Apple. I'll let you know if it's a mistake.

For speakers I have M-Audio studio speakers. For headphones I run Audio Technica ath-m50x's. I love these headphones. They give a nice flat tone. This lets me use an equalizer to get the sound that I want. I have etymotic MC5's for my in ear headphones. They do a great job of blocking out all of the surrounding sound.

Scheduling

To keep everything I'm doing in order, I do a few different things. For my day to day scheduling I use mostly just a pen and a daily scheduler. I prefer this for day to day tasks, because it is really easy to add and scribble out things. It's a good visual to me to see how busy I am on any particular day. I write basically everything that I have to do down, because if I don't I'll end up forgetting ... basically everything.
Scheduling

I use google calendar to schedule events and things that are happening further in advance. This way I can get a reminder on my phone. I also write it down in my planner, just in case I miss the reminder. I will occasionally use google keep if I'm out all day, and need to remember to make a phone call, or do something at a certain time. I also use post it notes for big tasks that need to be completed. Currently I have two up on my wall. One to reminding me that I need to finish my Eagle Scout workbook, the other to remind me about a scholarship application that I need to finish.

Workflow

I'd like to be able to say that I'm a great prioritizer. Unfortunately, I'm a great procrastinator. I always schedule my day the night before. Throughout the day I'll add small things to my schedule, but for the most part my days are planned out the night before. I try to do the things I dread most in the morning. Once I get those things out of the way, my day always becomes a lot more relaxed.

I listen and don't listen to music throughout the day. It all depends on my mood. The genre of music I listen to also varies greatly. Sometimes I'll listen to rap or hard rock, other times I'll be listening to classical music. It just depends on my mood and the task at hand. If I'm filling out spreadsheets for my lawn care business, it's normally rap, or something similar. If I'm trying to write a big english paper, it's normally a softer background music. I use either pandora, spotify, youtube, or my personal library to listen to music.

Sleeping

As far as sleeping goes, I enjoy staying up late. I also enjoy being up early. (Just not the waking up part) I'm normally asleep by 1130-12 and I'm up anywhere between 530 and 7. (Depending on how the waking up part goes) If I sleep in past 7, or even until 7, I feel like I've thrown away part of my day.

Concluding

I've made a lot of mistakes, and I'm going to make a lot more when it comes to my workflow and setup. I got to this workflow and setup through trial and error. Hopefully you can learn a little from this, and not make as many mistakes as I did along the way.

Don't be a copycat. Don't make the same mistakes that I did!
